| High Achievers Spring Break Camp |
| Spring break is never better than when you spend it with neigh bors! That is just what happened at New Hope Stables this week during the “Spring Break Horse Camp”! This camp, sponsored by New Hope Stables and the High Achievers 4-H club was another great success for the second year in a row! This camp was a three day blast, lasting from 8:30am until 6:00pm filled with exciting equine activities for twenty one excited young boys and girls eager to learn more about horses. |

| The camp included natural horsemanship demonstrations, pony rides, “horsey” crafts, a scavenger hunt, and a special demonstration from farrier Wayne Mizelle who showed how a horse gets shoes and even gave each child his or her very own horse shoe! |

Among all the fun there was a lot of learning about our equine friends as well. “Skill a Thons” were held for the first two days of the camp. Teen leaders from High Achievers captained four different groups competing for awards. The children rotated through learning stations such as, “parts of a horse”, “catching a horse”, cleaning tack, markings of a horse, pasture safety, grooming, cleaning a stall properly, proper leading of a horse, designing a stable, and how to demonstrate to others what they had learned. |

| According to leader Carla Bundy, owner of New Hope Stables and developer of the camp, the children were very well behaved and attentive. Several 4-H leaders and volunteers willingly gave up part of their own Spring Break to help out with “herding kids”, cooking the meals and serving snacks everyday. |
On the last day, teams and individuals were awarded for outstanding successes at a family cookout. Over fifty parents, grand parents and friends gathered together to hear all the camp stories and celebrate with their kids. What did the parents think of the Spring Break Camp? Besides helping out parents with daycare while they worked, the general consensus was that the children started the days clean and rearing to go but came back home dirty, smiling and falling asleep before 9:00pm! Hmmm, sounds like a great camp to us! |
